STOP EXECUTIONS
This year, Texas has executed five men: Steven Nelson; Richard Tabler; Moises Mendoza; Matthew Johnson; and Blaine Milam.
Two other men received stays of execution: David Wood, who has spent more than 30 years on death row for crimes he maintains he did not commit; and Robert Roberson, an innocent man who was set to be put to death on October 16, 2025, for a crime that never occurred. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted a stay and sent his case back to the trial court for further review on October 9.
There are no executions scheduled in Texas for the remainder of 2025.

GET INFORMED
Did you know the application of the death penalty is largely dependent on geography?
More than half of the counties in Texas have never sent anyone to death row, and death sentences have been concentrated in a few jurisdictions. In fact, six of the last nine people sentenced to death were convicted in either Harris (Houston) or Tarrant (Fort Worth) counties.
In Harris County alone, juries have sentenced 300 people to death since 1974; of these, 63 people convicted in Harris County remain on death row.
